🚨 Post-Migration Emergency
GA4 Attribution Broken After Moving Checkout to Shopify? Here's Why
By Dimsquid Engineering • Published Aug 4, 2026 • 5 min read
Moving your checkout experience from WooCommerce or WordPress over to Shopify is a great step for scaling conversion rates. However, many merchants hit a wall immediately after migration: GA4 revenue attribution completely collapses into Direct / (none).
The Domain Shift Problem
When your checkout lived directly on WordPress (e.g. yoursite.com/checkout), Google Analytics tracked users in a single first-party cookie environment.
Moving to Shopify shifts checkout to a different domain (checkout.yourbrand.com or yoursite.myshopify.com). Without cross-domain _gl parameter decoration, GA4 treats every visitor arriving at checkout as a new customer.
